Systems: Good or Bad?

Over the years almost everything has transformed into a system. There is a sense of over reliance on them. I just don't mean the IT systems here. Everyone may argue that it brings in a sense of functioning and brings order to the surroundings. The truth is things are this way and i personally believe everything requires a system.

Some personal observation as the reliance on such systems are increasing i feel that individuals are losing one of their most important facets "Common Sense". They become dysfunctional and i wonder what would happen when there is a day when some of the systems fail us. Would there be the ability to maintain the order that is being maintained at the current level? I really doubt it.

Is there an alternative that you can think of? Is there more one can do?

Its funny, but this is a conversation which has been cropping up in my recent conversations, albeit in different contexts...for example..there was this heavy lady, with a fractured limb, trying to get back into form through swimming. She was trying it out after almost 20 years. She was filled with doubts, as she was unable to swim with her head under water, unlike the other swimmers.
Take the case of the child who was forced into attending various classes to increase his knowledge. Which leaves me wondering, if all us followed a particular system to achieve something, where is creativity? "There is no one correct way of doing something' Fons trompenaars and charles Hampden-Turner, is something so right. You can swim in many different ways, isn't that why we have different strokes? If a child is forever in pursuit of education, due to peer pressure, where is the time for him to think, assimilate and react in his own way? Personal reaction cannot be tailored to follow a system. A system, should only lay down guidelines and help people to build on them and think further.
